Avondale 2019 Great Start Readiness Program

GSRP applications are available for download.
There are several ways for you to receive the application packet: 
  • Download the 2018-19 packet here 
  • Stop by the Avondale School District Administration building at 2940 Waukegan, Auburn Hills 48326) to pick one up
  • Call our GSRP enrollment office at (248) 537-6035 


The GSRP program is for preschool age children who may be at increased risk of school difficulties. It is a no or low cost program, available to qualified children residing in the Avondale School District who will be 4 years old before September 1, 2018.

Avondale will only accept COMPLETED applications in the STUDENT SERVICES OFFICE during regular office hours or by appointment if you are unable to come in during regular office hours. Summer office hours will be posted the second week of May. 




Basic Income Guidelines for Great Start Readiness Program and Head Start 

While this does not guarantee placement for your child, the following information may help you understand the different opportunities for your child.  

Head Start and Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) use the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) for their income eligibility guidelines.

Head Start

 

·       Federally-funded pre-kindergarten for 3- and 4- year olds.

·       For Families at or below 100% of poverty.

·       Classrooms located in public schools and other community sites in Oakland County.

(Avondale does not host any Head Start sites within the district but more information on this county-wide program can be found by clicking HERE)


Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP)

 

·       State-funded pre-kindergarten for 4-year olds.

·       For families at 101% to 250% of poverty, plus other non-income factors that may prioritize placement.

·       Classrooms located in public schools and childcare centers.

2018-2019 Avondale School District GSRP Acceptance Prioritization

1.      Avondale Families with lowest incomes are placed first. Students with family incomes at 100% FPL or lower who qualify and are referred to Head Start. If they prefer the Great Start Readiness Program, the parent/guardian must sign a Head Start Waiver, which Avondale will provide. 

2.     Students within the Avondale School District attendance area and are 4 years old by September 1, 2018 shall have preference through September 7, 2018.

3.     Students with school of choice siblings who qualify (under 250% FPL) will be considered beginning September 10, 2018. The student must be 4 years old by September 1, 2017 and the family must reside in Oakland County.  

4.      Avondale Students with incomes over 250% FPL may not be admitted until Monday, September 10, 2018.

5.     Students from neighboring districts in Oakland County may be considered for enrollment beginning Monday, September 10,2018. The student must be 4 years old by September 1, 2018.

Avondale Students with an IEP recommending inclusive placement, who are 4 years old by September 1 ,2018 may be considered for placement in GSRP in consultation with the child’s caseload teacher and the Director of Special Ed. Foster care and Homeless students and students with more risk factors will be placed first.  Low income is not a necessary consideration or a requirement for these students.


Upon submission  of a completed application for your child to attend GSRP in Avondale School District for the 2018-2019 school year, 

you will be asked to sign to acknowledge the following:

  • You may not find out if your child has been admitted into the GSRP until at least July 1, 2018 and maybe not until as late as September 15, 2018
  •  Admittance to GSRP is NOT on a first come, first served basis and even if your application is submitted early in the year, other children with more risk factors and/or lower family income whose applications were received later may be admitted into GSRP before your child
  • We will attempt to give you an idea of the chance of being admitted to this program based on prior years’ experiences, children from families with income levels and risk factors similar to your families.

Avondale residents with incomes at or below 100% FPL are notified

Second Round of Prioritization occurs: Avondale residents between 101-200% FPL are placed if openings remain.

If availability remains, 
Avondale students with family incomes over 200% FPL, School of Choice siblings, and Students from neighboring districts within Oakland County will be considered for placement.
