Avondale Students Participate in 10th Annual Oakland County Manufacturing Day

AHS students had the exciting opportunity to take part in the 10th Annual Oakland County Manufacturing Day!

The event included a visit to HiroTec, a global automotive industry leader specializing in the production of doors, exhaust systems, and closure manufacturing equipment. During the visit, students were introduced to the wide range of career opportunities available at HiroTec and received an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the manufacturing floor. They witnessed firsthand the transformation of raw steel into a specially designed product, made just for them, and even took home their very own finished piece. It was an inspiring and educational day for all involved! A big thank you to Andrew Cray at HiroTec who organized this great experience for us!

Avondale is excited to host a panel featuring College Admissions Directors from universities across the state. This event is open to students, parents, staff, and the community, offering an opportunity to better understand how colleges review Avondale transcripts — particularly with our standards-based grading system — and what each institution considers in their admissions process. To ensure a focused and efficient discussion, questions will be collected and provided to panelists in advance.

Please use this form to provide any questions you may have for the panel. Below are the goals for the panel discussion.
  • Admissions Criteria at Your Institution – An overview of how each college/university determines admissions decisions, including factors like GPA, test scores, AP Coursework, extracurricular activities, essays, and letters of recommendation.
  • Understanding Avondale Transcripts – Insights into how Avondale transcripts effectively communicate the academic achievements of our students and ensure universities receive the necessary information for a comprehensive evaluation.
  • Standards-Based Grading and College Admissions – How universities interpret standards-based grading systems, particularly in comparison to traditional grading, and how this impacts the review of student applications. .

Pay for Club or Activity

Being a part of a club or athletic team connects students to something bigger than themselves. Through involvement in school beyond the classroom, students meet new people with shared interest; learn new skills, build knowledge and gain experience; explore interests that may lead to career choices; and improve communication, problem-solving and team-work skills and build confidence.  Involvement promotes active participation in improving one's life and contributes to the improvement of other's lives.
