High School Transition Exploration
Who better to learn from than students who’ve just made the leap? Our 9th graders at Avondale High School created these transition guides to help future high schoolers (and their families) know what to expect, what to look forward to, and how to start strong.
High School Scheduling 26-27
Scheduling for the 26/27 begins soon!
ALL schedule requests will be completed and submitted via PowerSchool by the student.
- Wednesday, February 18th:
- 11th Graders will be scheduling
- Location: HUB
- When: 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Hour split up by last name
- Thursday, February 19th:
- 10th Graders will be scheduling
- Location: HUB
- When: 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Hour split up by last name
- Friday, February 20th:
- 9th Graders will be scheduling
- Location: HUB
- When: 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Hour split up by last name
All Grade Levels received an email from ahs.counselors@avondaleschools.org with more details.
Students need to have ALL of the following by February 27th by 2:30pm:
- Submit Schedule Requests via PowerSchool
- Once you hit 'Submit' in PowerSchool, you can no longer make changes. You will need to contact your school counselor with any changes. Deadline is June 1st by 2:30pm.
- Parent/Guardian Consent Google Form
- AP/Honors Statement (if applicable)
If the student's requests and parent/guardian approval is not turned in by the deadline or incomplete, their schedule will be created for them.
Wednesday, February 18th through Friday, February 20th during 6th & 7th Hour, the counselors will be available outside the counseling office to answer any scheduling questions they may have.
Please note:
- The counselors' availability will be limited during this time period.
- Schedule requests may or may not be granted based on availability and credit requirements. Although our goal is to partner with you to create the schedule, counselors reserve the right to place you in classes to accommodate your needs and meet the graduation criteria.

Freshmen Information & Registration
Entering high school and registering for the first time can feel overwhelming, but there is no need to stress. Below is all the information you need for Freshman Registration and for 9th grade scheduling. You can also explore the Curriculum resources for other helpful information on classes and requirements.
Academic Support
If you’re looking for tutoring or additional academic support, you’re in the right place! Avondale High School offers NHS Tutoring every Wednesday from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM in the HUB—feel free to stop by for help in any subject. If you’re looking for private tutoring, we encourage you to explore local resources such as tutoring programs and online tutoring platforms.
Summer School
Summer school is a great option for students for a variety of reasons. Summer school can be used as an opportunity for credit recovery or to meet graduation requirements, as well as a way to customize your schedule if there are additional classes you’d prefer to take during the school year. If you have questions about your options, your counselor can help.

2024-2025 Resources & Reminders
Avondale’s Food & Nutrition Services recently hosted its first-ever Chopped Cookoff Competition, giving high school students the chance to showcase their creativity, teamwork, and culinary skills in a fun and fast-paced cooking challenge.
The 2026 season will be remembered as one of the most exciting in the history of Avondale boys basketball.
The Yellow Jackets put together a remarkable run that energized the school and community, finishing the season with a deep postseason push that ended in the MHSAA State Semifinals — the program’s first appearance at that stage in nearly 25 years.
The Avondale community closed out the winter season in inspiring fashion as Avondale Unified Sports hosted its annual Polar Plunge, welcoming students from Troy High School, Troy Athens High School, and Bloomfield Hills High School for a day centered on inclusion, friendship, and giving back!
