Golden Paw
At Woodland Elementary, we are proud to present our Golden Paw Initiative, a positive behavior program designed to encourage and celebrate students who consistently demonstrate our R.O.A.R.S. characteristics: Respect, Organized, Attentive, Responsible, and Safe. Each time a student exemplifies one of these traits, they are awarded a Golden Paw, which they can then proudly place in our Golden Paw box.
Mrs. Rosinski regularly picks slips from the box during Morning Announcements, and the selected students are invited to the office to choose a special prize. These Golden Paws are then showcased on our Golden Paw bulletin board in the hallway, allowing everyone to see the fantastic efforts of our Wildcats. Additionally, students who earn Golden Paws are highlighted in our weekly newsletter, which is sent out to all families, ensuring that the entire school community can celebrate their achievements.
This initiative not only rewards positive behavior but also creates a school culture where the values of R.O.A.R.S. are recognized, celebrated, and continuously reinforced.

We are excited to announce that Ms. Carly Kozlowski has been selected as the new Principal of Woodland Elementary! Her hiring was approved by the Board of Education on September 2, and she officially begins her role today, Monday, September 8.
Carly brings more than a decade of experience in education, with a strong background in both teaching and school leadership. Most recently, she served as Special Education Coordinator in the Waterford School District. Prior to that, she was Principal of Hyde Park Day School in Illinois, where she focused on building collaborative school cultures and supporting students through research-based practices. Carly also spent several years as a Special Education Teacher with Chicago Public Schools and as a Learning Specialist and Case Manager at Polaris Charter Academy.
Her academic background includes a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from Northeastern Illinois University, a Master of Arts in Learning Disabilities from Northwestern University, and a Bachelor of Science in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology from Northeastern University. With this blend of experience and education, Carly is well-prepared to lead Woodland Elementary with both strength and compassion.
We also want to extend our gratitude to Katie Carion for serving as Interim Principal during the transition. Her leadership and dedication helped ensure a smooth start to the school year for Woodland students and staff.
Please join us in giving a warm Avondale welcome to Ms. Kozlowski as she begins this exciting new role at Woodland Elementary!
