Avondale Transitional Kindergarten
We recognize that some students may require some additional time before they are completely comfortable embarking on their Kindergarten journey. To help prepare them for their first big step into their educational, we're proud to offer our FREE Transitional Kindergarten program. This is a two-year program that provides an opportunity for incoming students to learn in a developmentally appropriate environment aligned with the growth of their unique social, emotional, and academic skills; featuring an adjusted curriculum designed to cultivate a strong foundation in these critical areas and set the stage for success throughout their entire academic careers.
Why Transitional Kindergarten?
The ultimate purpose of the Avondale Transitional Kindergarten Program is to provide a positive first experience for students attending school for the first time. Our teachers meet students at their individual level, nurture an early enthusiasm for learning and personal growth, and ensure that they are not lost during this crucial time of academic and social development.
How is my child placed in Transitional Kindergarten?
All our Kindergarten-age students follow the same pre-screening process including an assessment of social emotional readiness, language skills, fine motor skills, and letter and number knowledge. Historical data from preschool programs is also taken into consideration. If your child is found to meet the criteria for Transitional Kindergarten in these areas during pre-screening, they will be placed in the program.
First-time students who are accepted via Kindergarten Waiver will also be placed in Transitional Kindergarten.
Is there a cost for Transitional Kindergarten?
No. This is a completely free program.
Does every Avondale Elementary School offer Transitional Kindergarten?
Yes. All of our elementary schools are scheduled to run Transitional Kindergarten programs for the 2021-2022 school year: including Auburn, Deerfield, Woodland, and R. Grant Graham. Please note that if enrollment is low, there could be circumstances in which programs must be combined, in which case families will be consulted regarding enrollment.
Where will my child go to school post-Transitional Kindergarten?
