Avondale Teacher Represents Michigan in National Professional Learning Program

Held July 27–August 1, 2025, the six-day program was hosted by the Union League of Philadelphia, an organization originally established to help elect Abraham Lincoln, in partnership with Founding Forward and the Congressional Medal of Honor Society. The program was fully funded, including food, lodging, and travel stipends, for participating educators.

Throughout the week, participants examined the American War on Terror as a distinct era in U.S. history, studying its political, social, and ethical dimensions through lectures and discussions led by national scholars and policy experts, including Dr. Stuart Gottlieb (Columbia University), Dr. Eric Davis (Rutgers University), Edward Turzanski (Foreign Policy Research Institute), and Judge Michael Mukasey, former U.S. Attorney General. Educators also heard from Ryan Pitts, a Medal of Honor Recipient, and visited the 9/11 Memorial Museum in New York City to deepen their understanding of the conflict’s legacy.

The final day of the program featured training on the Medal of Honor Character Development Program, which provides free curriculum and professional resources to help schools teach lessons of heroism, integrity, and citizenship through first-hand narratives from Medal of Honor Recipients.

Following his participation, Mr. Kaczanowski is collaborating with Avondale administrators to explore opportunities for bringing this professional learning and curriculum to Avondale teachers.
