The 2026 season will be remembered as one of the most exciting in the history of Avondale boys basketball.
The Yellow Jackets put together a remarkable run that energized the school and community, finishing the season with a deep postseason push that ended in the MHSAA State Semifinals — the program’s first appearance at that stage in nearly 25 years.
Avondale’s historic postseason began with a major milestone: capturing the 2026 District Championship for the first time in more than a decade. The Yellow Jackets secured the title with a 57–43 victory over Clarkston, improving their record to an impressive 23–1 overall and 12–0 in league play. The moment marked the culmination of months of hard work and dedication from a team determined to leave its mark.
The momentum continued into the regional round. Playing with energy, chemistry, and an unmistakable team-first mindset, Avondale claimed the Division 1 Regional 7 Championship. Their unselfish play and constant support for one another defined the team’s identity throughout the tournament and helped propel them past tough competition.
Next came another historic moment.
With a quarterfinal victory over Rochester Adams, the Yellow Jackets punched their ticket to the MHSAA State Semifinals, marking the program’s first trip to the final four in a quarter century. The team traveled to the Breslin Center on the campus of Michigan State University, where they took the court in front of an energized crowd of students, families, and community supporters who made the journey to cheer them on.
In the semifinal matchup, Avondale battled Rockford in a tightly contested game that came down to the final moments. Although the Yellow Jackets fell just short of advancing to the state finals, the effort and heart they showed reflected the resilience that defined their season.
Beyond the wins and championships, the 2026 team brought the Avondale community together. The energy in the stands, the pride throughout the district, and the support shown for the players created an unforgettable atmosphere around the program.
While the season ended one step short of the state finals, the Yellow Jackets’ historic run will be remembered as a defining chapter for Avondale basketball — and a foundation for what’s to come.
Underscoring the incredible season, Head Coach Aaron Fox was also named the OAA Red Coach of the Year! In his very first season leading the program, Coach Fox guided the Yellowjackets to an incredible run that included League, District, and Regional titles before advancing all the way to the State Semifinals.
With a district title, a regional championship, and a trip to the state semifinals, the 2026 Yellow Jackets proved that the future of Avondale basketball is bright.
