Avondale School District Transportation Department

The primary goal of the Avondale School District Transportation Department is to safely transport students to and from school. Transportation is provided to students attending schools within the Avondale School District and residing more than one-half mile walking distance from the school. Please note that routes may be modified for safety. It is also important that parents and/or guardians assume responsibility for bus safety at bus stops, including getting students to and from the bus stop.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact Avondale Transportation at 248-537-6050.

Bus Routes & Early Dismissal Bus Schedules

Bus Routes and Early Dismissal Bus Schedules are listed below by school. Locate the name of your student’s school from the list below and click the appropriate button to view and download the Bus Routes and/or the Early Dismissal Bus Schedule.

The times posted in the Early Dismissal Bus Schedule downloads are approximate drop-off times for the Early Dismissal Day only. The adjusted schedules reflect an approximate two hour difference between the regular scheduled drop-off times and those anticipated for the early dismissal.

Tips to Increase Student Safety To & From School

Waiting for the Bus

  • Stay a safe distance away from the roadway
  • No pushing or horseplay when getting on the bus
  • Only walk toward the bus after it makes a complete stop

Walking to School

  • Learn and practice the safety rules for pedestrians. Always cross at crosswalks or corner to corner. Obey all traffic lights or crossing guard instructions.

Tips for Parents

  • If your child rides a bus, have them at the bus stop 10 minutes prior to the arrival of the bus. Your child must be at the stop when the bus stops, not in a car or your home.
  • Help your child learn and practice the safety rules for walking, bicycling, or riding in a car or bus.

Crossing in Front of the Bus

  • Walk 10 feet in front of the bus
  • Look both directions
  • Look at the driver for the signal to cross
  • Keep watching the traffic as you cross
  • Never stop to pick up anything when crossing

Tips for ALL Motorists

  • Slow down and obey all traffic laws and speed limits.
  • Red overhead flashing lights, possibly accompanied by an extended stop arm, tells you the school bus is stopped to load or unload children. State law requires you to stop at least 20 feet from the front or rear of a school bus when red lights are flashing and not proceed until the school bus resumes motion.
  • Be alert and ready to stop. Prepare to stop for a school bus when overhead yellow lights are flashing. Drive with caution if you see the yellow hazard warning lights flashing on a moving or stopped bus. Watch for children walking in the street, especially where there are no sidewalks. Watch for children playing and gathering near bus stops.
  • Watch for children arriving late for the bus who may dart into the street without looking for traffic. When backing out of a driveway or leaving a garage, watch for children walking or biking to school.

Requesting a Bus Stop Change

Bus stop changes are not made before the second week of school. This period is used to adjust the bus routes and to make sure all qualified students have a bus route assignment. After the second week of school, if you feel a bus stop change is needed, please read the following before submitting your request:

  • If all requests for additional stops in subdivisions are granted, it would have an enormous effect on the bus schedule and your student’s ride time. Therefore, additional stops are normally not approved, even though the bus drives by your house.
  • All request changes must be made in writing. No phone requests will be considered. You can download a Bus Stop Change Form below or you can pick one up at the Transportation Office.
  • All requests are reviewed and a written response will be provided. This process may take up to two weeks, depending on the number of requests submitted.
  • If the Transportation Department does not solve the problem to your satisfaction, you may request an appeal to the Transportation Committee. This committee consists of parents and district personnel. They will review your request in light of State law, Board policy, and district procedures.
